4 channel / 4 speaker site-specific installation for low frequency sine
waves and sand.
Similair in concept to the work "Lamparna Space" but different
in execution, "Sand" takes the sound of large grains of sand
being vibrated in the cones of eight speakers by inaudibly low frequency
sine waves.
Unlike in "Lamparna Space" where more speakers are used to create
a gradually shifting sonic room topography, "Sand" works with
the perception of smaller spaces. In two rooms four speakers are placed,
one to each corner of the room. One or two speakers play intermittently
at different time intervals, stretching the installation visitor's space
perception diagonally across the rooms, spanning the space between the
sounding corners where the speakers have been placed.
An additional factor to "Sands," unknown to me before arriving
at the space, was the radically different acoustic qualities of each room.
Passing from room to room I had the impression of stepping into a shower,
or walking from darkness into light.
